that's a figure of SPEECHment....
Well, America has been a democracy for over 200 years and it has never CONVICTED a president through impeachment(Nixon resigned), while Lithuania has removed their president due to impeachment after a little less than 13 years of independence - becoming the first European country ever to do
so. Perhaps some countries just can't handle democracy....

A story about the people really running Lithuania
Well, actually, Presidents Andrew Johnson and William Clinton were both impeached and subsequently acquitted.
As for Europe, we will always have the Defenestration of Prague--not quite impeachment, but, in some ways, a lot better.
Posted by: maggette at April 6, 2004 05:30 PMBtw, great and unbelievably insane props to the person who remembers/knows where the lyric -
"Soft and round like a peach, that's a figure of speech" comes from.
And if you say a textbook, you'll be smacked. I'm thinking the entertainment realm.
the lyric is one I sing all the time since it was part of a song and dance routine in an 80's "fame"- like tv series. I'll smack back if you don't tell me all you know about it. FYI I found your lyric quote cuz I was searching for info about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: harvey w butler at April 17, 2005 08:04 PMI have to admit that I didn't know the name of the show when I posted that comment (wow, over a year ago). Some investigation leads me to believe the name of the show was Hull High, which was the less famous musical cousin of Cop Rock. I actually thought it was only on the air for 3 episodes, but the imdb page claims it came back to finish at 6.
Anyway, I do remember this much. The line came from a show about a high school where the actors would break into song. The line "soft and round like a peach" was written on the blackboard by the young, hot, female teacher, which of course led the male members of the class to daydream and break into a chorus of "Soft and round like a peach, that's a figure of speech" and now occasionally that line will spring forth from the depths of my psyche.
Btw, to throw another example of interconnectiveness on top of the heap, for the last couple of days I've been looking for a way to watch Showtime's Reefer Madness because I bought the original 1930's propaganda film on DVD for a couple of bucks (which I have yet to remove from the shrink wrap) and because Kristen Bell was pimping it on the talk show circuit (and she is on a show I'd watch if I had more time called Veronica Mars). Point of Wonderment: does Showtime expect me to subscribe to their channel because they have one show on it I want to watch? Do a lot of people do that? I don't even know anyone around me who subscribes to Showtime.
Anyway, during my search, I came across this article on Inner Toob that mentions both Reefer Madness and Hull High - the latter which I could't identify until yesterday. What are the odds?
