I came across a NY Times op-ed saying that Eats, Shoots, & Leaves is the WORST BOOK OF ALL-TIME ... or at least that correct punctuation is overrated.

Wow, I am shocked that the NY Times would take this tack. I mean, it seems to me that stuffy upper-crust liberals would be the first to flock to this. Seriously, though, while proper punctuation may not be too material to everyone's daily grind, it is quite important to some people's professions. For instance, for those of us who are lawyers, some disputes come down to the meanings of individual words in a statute or in a brief. Punctuation can then be very important.

Posted by: Mr. Sparkle at May 21, 2004 11:03 AMNot only may this book's subject of grammatical strictness not be necessary for effective communcation; according to the New Yorker, the book itself is full of punctuation errors. Anyone foolish enough to buy this book should burn it or ask for their money back (or both).
