They can't do that to our president. Only we can do that to our president.

From the people who brought you Kylie Minogue riding a mechanical bull, Agent Provocateur has a new video, She Lost Control, to promote their lingerie and their new music album that features a representation of the president of the United States of America involved in the M part of a S & M encounter (seen on Adrants).

Now the video is what it is, though perhaps a little stretched out in parts, but it is a music video - I just have to wonder why a British company had to include our sitting president - during an election year - in one of their ads / videos? Do you think a Tony Blair-lookalike having wax poured on him by Carmen Electra would be a big draw in America? It is one thing if they were making fun of a particular situation involving or characteristic of the president (such as with the last guy and a certain intern), but this video seems to imply they just want to torture our president - especially the nipple twisting. I'll give you that some people believe Bush is a right-wing bible-thumper, but if they are trying to send up that point they could have done a better job of it by establishing that as his supposed behavior.

I think it's probably more likely that they were trying to point out that, in their opinion, the emperor has no clothes. In other words (note to Secret Service: in no way do I believe this. I am just trying to point out what these dumb Brits are thinking. Thank you, and God Bless America.), Bush acts tough on the world stage, but really he's just a small man who likes to be beat up and pushed around by a woman. In their metaphor, Blair is even worse because he is ultimately submissive and kept in Bush's closet.

The other reason is probably that most of Britain's major political scandals (at least in modern times) have involved sex in some way. Because Bush is relatively "clean" on the moral front, innuendo is one of the ways to attack him. Bush is the international scapegoat right now.

All of that being said, I think that it's pretty objectionable. I think that a similar effort in the States would probably be considered in poor taste, offensive, or worse. The British: love their football, hate their society's nearsighted worldview.

I approve this message.
