ESPN has a blurb today about President Bush declining to sign some Olympic Truce - whether this is a real tradition that has happened at every modern Olympics as opposed to something which was done 2500 years ago I'm unclear on and don't have the energy to research at the moment, but I believe it is the latter. Thanks, World, for thumbing your noses at the good ol' U.S. of A.! Even though it's entirely ceremonial, one has to respect Bush for not signing it (unlike that hypocrite Blair) since the world (and half of America) would hold his feet to the fire once pen touched paper. Unless the World can get Bin Laden, all the terrorists and the Iraqi rebel leaders to sign with Bush, they can just keep their mouths shut.
Congratulations to America's athletes for a solid first day to take the early medal lead (though there are still more than two weeks to go). Solid win by Phelps, but as I keep saying, he'll probably end up with 3 or 4 golds, but 7 or 8 is really out of the question (though I of course would like to see him do it).
