The latest news in the oddity of one company who claims "all your images do belong to us" - Forgent's jpeg patent is being re-examined.
Posted by boo at February 3, 2006 04:01 PMUnfortunately for all the slashdot tards out there, I have a feeling that the dreaded "'672 patent" will hold up upon re-examination. Forgent has already squeezed $150+ million in settlements out of this one, and I don't see that happening unless the patent is valid. I'm pretty sure a Sony, Canon, or an HP would have squashed this long ago if it were that easy.
Not that I'm such a huge fan of that patent. Then again, I sure wouldn't mind the $15 a share that a lawsuit victory over Microsoft alone would entail.
