Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

Wow, it has been over 10 years since the Bloodhound Gang burst on the scene with Fire Water Burn (and no one I know ever played the uncensored version over the speakers at a now non-existent music store), yet they are still releasing new albums - Hefty Fine - and have a video for Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo. I guess that means they are not available to play The Bad Touch at weddings.

Quick Poll - People's Favorite From:
ham wallet
oyster ditch
gut locker
pudding hatch
squish mitten
yippee bog
bitch wrinkle
fiddle cove

Editor's Note: Thank you to all the people who pointed out the Bloodhouse Gang typo. Now that would be a name for a band!

Arrested nabs Star

Since the stats show that no one watches Arrest Development except for people who occasionally read this blog, exciting news for us since Charlize Theron has decided to do a 5 epiode arc (4th story down). I do like Charlize and she may be the only actress that gives the impression of being a Hollywood Star anymore. It'll be interesting to see her on the little screen - apparently at 8 pm on Mondays (who knew they were changing it).

A Poet is Born

We would like to congratulate Soleil Moon Frye (aka, Punky Brewster) on the birth of her daughter, Poet Sienna Rose Goldberg. We are supremely confident that the father is her husband, Jason Goldberg, and none of the people in this before-used photograph (she's the one on the left).

It's been 10 years - can we all chat now?

When I first went to college, one of the first uses I discovered for that fancy huge always-on network was the IM program ICQ. People sent me horrible wav files via file transfer (yes, before mp3 was common place), I received computer advice, and after much trial and error I met plenty of new people. Somehow as time went on I never chatted up anyone with a smaller ICQ number (4370462 - I know that number and not my last several phone numbers), and it has been years since I've even bothered to install ICQ (still the "best" IM program I've ever used - though admittedly bogged number with numerous unnecessary options at the time). I still use gaim, but now I am forced to use the networks of those two big guys (MSN and AOL) to talk with the few people I keep in contact with online. Today is finally that red-letter day that AOL's destruction of ICQ made nearly impossible in many minds - 10 years after my initial contact with IM, I am logged on to a massive, open standards IM system thanks to Google. I'm logged on right now and I have to urge everyone to make it their standard (and to welcome their Google overlords) because I will. Though already mentioned on slashdot, gaim instructions to follow in extended section.

Instructions from smash's world:

How to set it up with GAIM on Windows/Linux, or Adium on the Mac:
-- For iChat, just enter the information above.
1. Add an account, select "Jabber" as the protocol.
2. Your screen name is everything before the '@gmail.com'.
3. Server is 'gmail.com'.
4. Click "show more options" and make sure "use TLS if available" is checked. Leave "Force old SSL" and "allow plaintext..." unchecked for now. Connection port should be 5222, connection server should be 'talk.google.com' without the quotes.
5. Ta-da! Just login and you should be good-to-go.

ESPN: Why are they sucking?

Forget that I haven't seen the big finish on PTI in weeks because I've stopped watching Sportscenter and their ingenious little plan of playing the end of PTI (the best show on TV when both Tony and Wilbon are on) during the beginning of Sportscenter is not going to make me. ESPN is truly demonstrating their suckiness now on baseball scores and it seems recently they have really taken a nose dive. Forget that the SMS scores always come at some random interval after the end of an inning, for the last couple of weeks the actual scoreboard on ESPN.com is broken or stale. Last week they didn't record a home run in the 7th inning to tie a game and just left me wondering why they were playing extra innings. Now even the gamecast and gamelog links are not showing up consistently. Are they sucking on purpose to force you to mlb.com who at least seem to do a reasonable job of keeping up-to-date? It is really hillarious now because the front page of ESPN is expounding on how Wells is sucking, but the link shows the game as 0-0. You have to go to mlb to see that the Red Sox are currently losing 5 to 0.

Throw like a girl; Be Tried like a Felon

In what maybe one of the most legally frightening moves I have heard of in a while, an 11-year-old Fresno girl is being tried on a felonious deadly-weapon charge for hitting a boy with a rock (luckily, it has been reported the trial has been dropped). Clearly, she made a poor (some would say childish) choice when she decided to defend her and her brother from some boys hurling water balloons with a rock, but the parents of the boys involved should be embarrassed to have gotten the police involved and/or failing to dissuade them from prosecuting her. A website, Free Maribel Cuevas, has been setup to follow her (perhaps already over) plight.

This story hits particularly hard for me because when I was about her age (actually, I have only a vague idea of how old I was, but young enough to be on a playground), I stoned someone in a moment of weakness. Similar to this girl, I was defending myself (or at least making a point) when I hit a boy in the head with a 1 1/2 inch piece of rock gravel at a distance of perhaps 40 yards - unfortunately, one of the great throws of my life. The boy, who admittedly was already running away at the time, went to his mother. When she came out, towing him along with a sack of ice on his bruise, I stood my ground. I explained to her that they started the rock throwing (which she, of course, did not know since they had somehow managed to leave that out of their account) and apologized for throwing the rock. She gave me a stern warning (though even without the warning I never had plans before or after that moment to stone someone) and the police were fortunately never involved -- with hopefully neither side ever imagining they would be. It is a sad day when the community cannot educate their children in such matters of right and wrong to instead teach them to call the police when innocent disagreements occur.
